We are the Power District! Sense of community, pride and quality of life are NOT negotiable.
Downtown
Downtown Gainesville is a unique combination of the Old South, sophisticated restaurants, historic intown neighborhoods and cutting edge technology. Historic architecture, cobblestone streets, public plazas, traditional storefronts all make it pedestrian friendly. Fine restaurants abound, as well as more casual eateries, art, music and theatre venues, shopping and nightlife. Many special events take place in the downtown ranging from art festivals, sporting events and the weekly farmer's market.
Downtown renewal projects include the large scale redevelopment of Depot Park with the Cade Museum for Innovation and Invention and the Power District which will further enhance and establish the City of Gainesville's status. The Depot Park project is one of the most important environmental reclamation and urban renewal projects in the city's history and the Power District redevelopment is a huge opportunity to further community wide economic development.
With the connection to the College Park/University Heights Redevelopment Area and neighboring University of Florida Innovation Square, the downtown, and its neighborhoods will have a comfortable pedestrian and bike friendly connection to the University of Florida, Shands and the Veterans Administration Hospital campuses.
Without a doubt, downtown Gainesville is revitalized with a new energy and determined to establish itself through higher education, cutting edge technology, science, research, residential development, business and economic development.
