City Commission Candidates Share Views On Key Issues


"The public on Monday got its first look at the 2012 Gainesville City Commission candidates — at least some of them.
The six Democrats in the nonpartisan Jan. 31 elections were asked to participate in a forum sponsored by the University of Florida College Democrats and the Alachua County Young Democrats. All six showed up, but the four Republicans and the one independent candidate in the field were not invited.
Economic opportunity — or the lack thereof — was the theme of the forum, held on the UF campus, as the city embraces the university community's push into the so-called innovation economy, which aims to foster start-up companies and keep them local when they blossom."
